How it works
Manage your own list - add, edit or remove items from your list. Highlight items that you really want ('preferred') or ones that you want multiple times ('recurring'). When you're shopping, take a photo and upload your item instantly.
Manage your friends - check out their lists, find friends and find connections. If you are looking for a young child's profile, they will be located under their adult's account. Only add friends that you'd buy gifts for - this is not Facebook!
View your 'To Buy' list. Every time you 'take' an item from a list it goes to the Shopping Basket. It has a 'To Buy' and an 'Already Bought' column.
FAQ
-
How do I add a friend?
Tell your friend to sign up to Check My List. Then they can find you through the "Find friends" search.
-
How do I add a dependent (e.g. cat / young child / luddite) to my
profile?
From the home page, go to the "Dependents" section. Here is where you add the details of other people within your account.
When you add a dependent to your list, their name/s will appear under your account. You will need to toggle between profiles especially when you go shopping or if your dependent wants to add to their list.
NOTE: If the child has their own email address, we recommend they sign up separately.
-
How do I add a dependent to my list of friends?
You need to be friends with the adult account first, then you can add the dependent from their profile or the "Friends" page.
-
I am no longer friends with someone on my list - can I remove them?
Yes, you most certainly can. Go to their profile and press the red "remove" button. Once you remove them, they will no longer be able to see your profile either.
-
Who can see the list of presents I want?
Only your current friends can see your list.
-
Who can see my list of friends?
Only your current friends can see your list of friends.
-
How do I share Check My List with my friends?
You can send your friends a link to the website and they can sign up.
-
What does "recurring" mean?
It means that you want this item more than once - some examples are: black socks, soap, instant scratchies or hugs! If someone selects a recurring item from your list - the item will remain on there - so do not use this feature unless you want the same thing multiple times.
-
What does "nudge" mean?
It means a friend looking at your list wants more items to choose from on your list. Even though you may believe you have added a lot of items, it may be out of their budget or their idea of what to buy you for this celebration. The nudge is then sent anonymously via email.
-
What does "preferred" mean?
You know when you really, really want something - more than anything else - label this as preferred!
-
Can I add a joint present?
Yes, when you ‘add’ a present to your list, there is a "I'm sharing this item with .." feature. When you add a friend's name to this section, the item will appear on their list AND your list.
-
I don't want something from my list anymore - how do I remove it?
Go to your list and click on 'remove'. If it states that you are not able to remove the item, it means that a friend has put that particular item on their shopping list. It doesn't necessarily mean that you are going to get the item, it may mean that someone is considering buying it for you.
-
I got two of the same thing - how come?
It looks like someone may have not 'taken' the item from your list so another friend thought it was still available. If you are selecting an item, it’s best to always make sure you 'take' an item from a list to avoid this happening, it prevents doubling up - this is good if it’s chocolate, but may be not so good if it’s a book!
-
What happens after an event - does my list get cleaned up?
Yes! 10 days after an event occurs, the presents that were taken by your friends will be removed from your list. If there are items that weren't taken, they will remain on your list.
-
Can I print the list?
No, we have not enabled this feature on the site. We hope you are able to use your smartphone when you are shopping.
-
Is this an app?
No. Check My List is a website that can be viewed via a browser on any of your devices.
